Future Plan Discussion
Dear
Neighbors,
We
have reached a very interesting point in the history of our
neighborhood, and it is now time for us all to come together and
discuss the possible future that lies ahead of
us. After many years of protest, planning, organizing, more
planning, discussion, and even more planning, we are at a pivotal
point, where all of those past efforts may pay off.
Recently,
Bert VanderVeen and I had lunch with the Dascalakis Family (who owns
the Dunleith property on Chestnut St), the City of Greensboro,
Piedmont Community Design Forum (PCDF) and Urban Harvest.
The Dascalakis family is interested in seeing one of the designs
that emerged from last year’s charette actually come into being.
To
continue to remain as key players in the future of the Dunleith
site, the neighborhood needs to first agree on which of the five
plans that PCDF/DPZ sketched out at the Charette we would like to
move forward with, keeping in mind that the 700 or so feet between
the railroad tracks and the proposed development will be targeted
for the working Urban Farm, which will be a key feature of the
development.
So,
for the next month, we need to express our questions and concerns,
and voice our opinions about the options that lie before us. We
hope to hear from every single person, either online via the list-serv,
or by phone (feel free to call me, Brian Heagney, at 336-392-0868).
So,
let the discussion begin!
