Aycock Residents Open Their Wallets for First Annual Fund Drive

By Linda J. Fusco

Thanks to all the Aycock residents and merchants who opened their wallets to contribute to our First Annual Fund Drive.  We collected nearly $2000 through donations and Luminaria sales this year.

Donations/Luminaria sales help fund events such as National Night Out and our Annual Pecan Festival.  They also help pay for our newsletter, website, and LISTSERV.  Donations are tax-deductible.

Thanks to those who donated:

  • Phoebe Azar

  • Betsey Baun

  • Christina Cantrell

  • Sara Farnsworth

  • Linda Fusco

  • Lilian Govus

  • Zora Medor - Good Green Fun Fair

  • Clint Spivey - Breedlove Radiator

  • Mark Townsend

  • David Wharton

  • Judy Worsley

  • Shawn Wriede

Thanks to Bert VanderVeen who coordinated the Luminaria kit sales.  And a special thanks to everyone who bought Luminarias.  The lit candles made a beautiful display that night (December 11, 2011).

Please note that if you did not contribute, it’s not too late to do so.  Visit the website at http://historicaycock.org/donations.htm

Farmers Curb Market Under New management

By David Craft, GFM Board of Directors

Greensboro Farmers Market Inc. (GFM), a newly formed not-for-profit organization, will begin managing the Farmers Curb Market January 6, 2012.  The City has granted a three year contract, with two one-year extensions.

GFM plans include outreach to the community, expanded programming, and enhanced product offerings during the next year.

The market has a long history of offering local produce, meats, foods, and crafts. Many businesses have gotten their start in the market, including Simple Kneads and Cheesecakes by Alex.  The group hopes to continue to attract new vendors and customers.
